Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It is a great pleasure to invite you to the 2009 European Cystic Fibrosis Conference which will take place at the Quartz congress centre in Brest, an ultra-modern facility located in the heart of Brittany, France.

The ECFS conferences are based on excellence in science and clinical care, and bring together the best of European and international experts in cystic fibrosis.  Your participation will contribute to a productive conference which will include a challenging and exciting programme of plenary sessions, symposia and workshops. The 2009 ECFS conference in Brest will also be great opportunity to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the discovery of the CF gene!

The city of BREST, regional capital of Western Brittany, is known as the Gateway to the Atlantic.  The city has grown in the heart of a magnificent bay and developed a rich maritime culture symbolizing openness to the world, modernity and tradition.  BREST is a university town with a lively and dynamic atmosphere, and the region is internationally renowned for major achievements in CF research and clinical care.  Brittany has a strong Celtic tradition with a wonderful culture mixed with modern thinking.

This will be a great place to celebrate the past achievements in CF and chart new routes to develop better clinical care and effective treatments for people with CF.  Come and join us in Brest for an exciting, challenging and good fun conference in 2009.

The French Cystic Fibrosis Society and the French Cystic Fibrosis Association "Vaincre la Mucoviscidose" would like to extend a very warm invitation to the 2009 conference in Brittany.  We hope that you will come and enjoy the hospitality of the Breton peninsula and the city of Brest.

We hope that this opportunity to discuss the latest research and clinical developments in CF will enable all participants to return to their home towns and countries better equipped to make their contribution to the complex and serious condition that is Cystic Fibrosis.

The French Cystic Fibrosis Society and the French Cystic Fibrosis Association "Vaincre la Mucoviscidose" are proud to be hosting this important conference.  The improvements we have seen over the years owe everything to the dedicated scientists, clinicians and allied health professionals who have been so committed to better understand and treat Cystic Fibrosis.  The conference will help to focus and stimulate further research and clinical developments so important to those affected with Cystic Fibrosis.

We look forward to our stimulating time together in Brittany.

Brest
City of Brest
The historic port of Brest lies on a stunning peninsula, a wondrous example of the harmony between land and sea.  Formed by eight communities and housing numerous treasures, "Brest Métropole Océane" offers religious, civil and military history, mixed with a glorious maritime past.

Brest has a population of over 380,000 in the city proper while the whole of Western Brittany has about one million inhabitants.  It harbours the head office of the French Navy and is one of the leaders in European marine sciences.

Discover Brest and its surroundings situated at the land's end.  This charming area offers many interesting possibilities: Celtic-inspired folklore, the Castle and the Tour Tanguy, curious menhirs, ancient forts, lighthouses, lovely fresh seafood and of course world-famous crêpes.

Enjoy and experience the feel of the ocean in one of the most famous port cities in Europe.  Brest plays host to major attractions such as Océanopolis, an ocean discovery park, and a first class programme of events.  An outstanding and protected living environment, a natural and architectural heritage and a rich and diverse cultural life make Brest and the tip of Finistère a leading tourist destination.
